ARE THERE WAVES FOR BEGINNERS?
Playground Surf Resort offers a variety of breaks suitable for beginners. We do recommend that every surfer be proficient in standing up and riding a wave.
While the Mentawais are renowned for perfect barrels, we also have fantastic smaller waves suitable for all skill levels. Explore our “beginner waves” on our map.
DO YOU PROVIDE WI-FI?
We are fortunate to have a strong Wi-Fi signal, along with 3G phone coverage.
Our Wi-Fi is lightning-fast nowadays, allowing you to stream WSL events, stay connected with family through WhatsApp, or even conduct video work calls. Wi-Fi is a complimentary inclusion in your package and is accessible throughout the entire resort, including communal areas, and it may reach some beach areas depending on conditions.
DO YOU OFFER SURF COACHING TRIPS?
Absolutely! We offer surf lessons and coaching trips in collaboration with the renowned Performance Surf Coaching. Consult our calendar or click the provided link for inquiries.
DO I NEED TO EXCHANGE MONEY?
We recommend currency exchange if you plan to purchase gifts or local art crafts.
Any additional resort expenses can be settled using Visa, MasterCard, or cash at the end of your trip. Tips can also be added to your Playground Resort Bar Bill for your convenience.
DO I NEED A VISA TO ENTER INDONESIA?
Yes, most countries are eligible for a Visa on Arrival. There are two options: a Free 30-day Visa or a $35 extendable Visa. Check if your country qualifies for a Visa on Arrival by visiting the link provided. Additionally, consult your country’s embassy website to confirm eligibility.
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME OF THE YEAR?
Mentawai offers year-round surfing opportunities. The bigger waves typically roll in from May to September, while March, April, October, and November offer medium-sized waves. From December to February, smaller waves are still heaps of fun and perfect for ripping.
DO I HAVE TO STAY IN PADANG?
Yes, you will need to spend one night in Padang upon your arrival and another on the last day of your trip. Explore hotel options by clicking the link provided.
WHAT TIME DOES THE TRANSFER BOAT DEPART?
The Mentawai Fast Ferry sets sail at 7 am on the first day of your trip.
WHAT TIME CAN I DEPART FROM PADANG?
After a late evening arrival from Siberut, you’ll need to spend one night in Padang and can depart the following morning.
HOW CAN I PAY FOR THE TRIP?
We accept payments via bank transfer, WISE, credit cards (Visa/MasterCard), USDC, or cash.

Transfers and ferry tickets are included in your package, encompassing airport pick-up, airport-hotel-harbor transfers, and ferry arrangements. WHERE IS PLAYGROUND SURF RESORT LOCATED?
Playground Surf Resort is nestled in the heart of Northern Mentawai, situated on Masokut Island in the Indonesian province of West Sumatra.
HOW DO I REACH PLAYGROUND SURF RESORT?
The most convenient way to reach Playground Surf Resort is by flying from Jakarta or Kuala Lumpur. Once in Padang, our team will coordinate all your transfers seamlessly.
WHAT’S INCLUDED IN TRANSFERS AND TAXES?
Our transfer service initiates at Padang airport, allowing you to travel without the hassle of handling luggage during arrivals and departures. Guests are greeted at the airport and transported to their hotel for their first night. The following day, you’ll be picked up from your hotel and transported to the Fast Ferry, which departs for the Mentawai Islands at 7:00 am. Upon arrival in Siberut, our staff will welcome you and transfer you by speedboat to the resort, a mere 45-minute journey. As your stay concludes, we’ll ensure your return journey is well-managed, ensuring you arrive punctually for your flight.
CAN WE RESERVE THE ENTIRE RESORT?
Absolutely! We offer a special package for booking the entire resort. Our maximum capacity is 13 guests, comfortably accommodated in our 6 en-suite rooms. You can make the resort exclusively yours for small weddings, corporate events, yoga retreats, family gatherings, and more.
WHAT IS THE CULINARY EXPERIENCE LIKE?
Our culinary offerings are a delightful blend of diverse and delicious meals throughout your stay. We cater to various dietary preferences, including vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options.
Our chef crafts dishes based on seasonal availability, ensuring a constantly evolving menu. We draw inspiration from Asian, Indonesian, Mexican, Italian, Japanese, and Brazilian cuisines to provide a rich culinary experience. Our team collaborates with local fishermen to source the freshest catches. If you have special dietary requests or cravings, please don’t hesitate to inform us. Our chef and team are eager to accommodate your preferences.
IS THERE MEDICAL FACILITIES ON THE ISLAND?
While reef cuts are common, we are well-prepared with a hospital clinic conveniently located at Peipei village, just a one-minute boat ride away.
DO YOU OFFER SURFBOARD RENTALS?
Most surfers prefer to bring their own boards, but we understand that accidents can happen during travel. Therefore, we maintain a backup quiver at the resort to ensure you can continue to ride the waves.
At Playground Surf Resort, we specialize in creating intimate and unforgettable surf experiences. Our resort accommodates a maximum of 13 guests per trip, ensuring a personalized and exclusive adventure for every surfer. Each of our surf expeditions spans either 10 or 11 nights, meticulously planned to immerse you fully in the magic of our unique location. Our schedules are carefully crafted, considering the remote charm of our resort and the logistics of island travel. This duration is not just about convenience; it’s our way of making sure you have ample time to soak in everything Playground Surf Resort has to offer – from exhilarating waves to serene beachside relaxation.
To reserve your spot in this surfers’ haven, we ask for a US $500 deposit (per person). Upon payment you will receive email confirmation outlining all the information and receipt of payment.

Day 1 – Departure
Malaysian Airlines, Perth to Kuala Lumpur
Take Flight from Perth Begin your surf odyssey with a departure from Perth Airport, heading for Kuala Lumpur. Rest and recharge with an overnight stay at an airport hotel, all in anticipation of the excitement that awaits.
Playground Tip: For ease and convenience, we recommend opting for pod accommodation at the airport during your layover. This hassle-free option ensures you’re well-rested and just moments away from your next flight, so you can continue your journey refreshed and ready for the surf adventure ahead.
Day 2 – Padang
Kuala Lumpur to Padang, Indonesia
Board your flight from Kuala Lumpur to Padang — a swift journey of approximately one hour. Upon touching down in Padang, the first exciting chapter of your surf adventure begins. Our friendly representative will be eagerly waiting for you outside the airport, ready to welcome you warmly and escort you to your chosen hotel, where your comfort is our priority from the outset.
Upon arrival, you will need to have a visa please look up the visa requirements for your country to enter Indonesia. Please ensure you have all necessary documentation prepared for a smooth process.
Once settled into your hotel, take the time to unwind and enjoy the amenities. Padang is a laid-back city, and while it may not buzz with tourist attractions, it’s the perfect place to relax before your surfing begins. Lounge by the pool, indulge in local flavors at the hotel restaurant, and enjoy the serene environment. It’s an opportunity to recharge and savor the anticipation of the waves that await.
Playground Tip: Airport porters are readily available to assist you with your luggage. Standard porter fees are around 20,000 rupiah per person. Feeling generous? A tip of 50,000 rupiah will make their day and is greatly appreciated for their enthusiastic service.
Day 3 – Arrival
Padang to Playground Surf Resort, Indonesia
The day starts early with a 6 AM hotel pickup, followed by a transfer to Padang Harbor. There, you’ll meet Tika, our local liaison, who will provide you with tickets for the Mentawai Fast Ferry set to depart at 7 AM. The ferry will take you through the stunning waters to Siberut, arriving around 2 PM. Our team will be there to guide you to our private speedboat for the final leg of the journey to Playground Surf Resort. Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed with breathtaking views, a warm reception, and a delicious late lunch.
After you’ve settled in and enjoyed lunch, it’s time to get into the water. Our team will be ready to take you out for your first surf session. Feel the excitement of catching your first waves at the resort, a perfect start to your surf adventure.
Playground Tip: Bringing your own snacks for the ferry journey is a smart move, especially if you have specific dietary needs. While you’ll find light refreshments onboard like noodles and chips, they tend to cater to local tastes. Complimentary water is available, but it’s wise to bring an additional bottle for extra hydration. And if you’re prone to seasickness, remember to take your seasickness tablets before departure to ensure a comfortable trip.
Day 4 – 14 (10-days)
Surf the Best Waves on the Planet
Surf’s Up at Playground Surf Resort (10 Days) Your days at the resort are perfectly in sync with the ocean’s rhythm. Enjoy a hearty buffet breakfast each morning before heading out for your surf session.
Capture your progress with our on-site photographer or videographer, and refresh yourself with snacks and drinks whenever you need. Post-surf, indulge in a delightful lunch and enjoy some personal time for activities like yoga, strolling, or a well-deserved nap. Gather again for an afternoon surf, topped off with sunset beers and the day’s shared stories.
Each evening, relax with the day’s images before a delectable dinner, then dream of the next day’s surf as you retire to your room.
Day 15 – Departure
Transfer from Playground Surf Resort to Padang
As your surf retreat draws to a close, we promise a seamless journey back to reality. After one last morning of surfing and lunch, our speedboat will escort you back to Siberut Harbor to catch the 2 PM Mentawai Fast Ferry. Our representative will welcome you back at Padang Harbor and arrange your comfortable transfer to the hotel.
Playground Tip: Make sure to pack your bags ready for the whole journey home before leaving Playground Surf Resort. This way, when you arrive back late, you can unwind and enjoy your dinner, and then get some restful sleep before your flight the next day.
Day 16 – Leave Indo
Malaysian Airlines Jakarta to Perth
We’ll take care of your transfer from the hotel to Padang Airport for your journey back home. Board your flight to Jakarta and onward to Perth, filled with new friendships and the indelible spirit of Playground Surf Resort.
