“Beng Beng is a wave that resonates with the soul of every surfer who’s ridden its. It’s a firm favorite among those who visit Mentawai, and for a good reason.”

“If you ever find yourself not taken by Beng Beng, it’s likely because you haven’t surfed it in its prime – and that’s precisely what we’re here for. Beng Beng comes alive with a modest swell, hitting its stride from mid to low tide. It’s in these moments that the wave truly sings, offering a harmonious rhythm for you to sync with your board and feel your skills sharpen with every turn.”

“The atmosphere in the water at Beng Beng is as inviting as the wave itself, with a convivial lineup where everyone gets their share of the joy. And should the swell pick up, Beng Beng stays true to its namesake—two solid turns on a wall that’s less forgiving, and then it’s a race to kick out before the reef claims its due. We always remind surfers to respect the wave’s conclusion, but those who ignore may find themselves paying the ocean’s toll.”

N

SWELL

We look for a touch of west in the swell here at Beng Beng; too big, and the wave loses its shape, becoming too soft for the liking.

N

Wind

Offshore winds from the east or southeast are ideal, but I have a soft spot for a slight onshore breeze—it sculpts the face for some truly stylish sessions.

N

Tide

The sweet spot is neither too full nor too low, especially during the spring tides of the full and new moons—heed these natural cues.

N

Location

Just a stone’s throw across from our resort, on the same island, Beng Beng is a gem that’s as accessible as it is enchanting. I’ve often enjoyed the 30-minute walk to its shores at low tide—it’s a journey through paradise.

N

Distance

A mere 5-minute boat ride separates you from the Beng Beng experience. You’ll barely have time to apply sunscreen before the wave beckons.

Tips from Oscar Guiss Filho, Playground Surf Resort

"I spent 8 days here with an awesome crew of friends and the outstanding coaching support of Margaret River High Performance Centre. The resort is simply stunning; the welcome from Donny and his tribe of cooks, photographers and boat crew goes well beyond anything I've experienced before. Such a great, happy, welcoming group of people. And the waves... OMG, these are world class and there are options for all levels. At least 20 surf breaks on your doorstep and local knowledge ensures that you hit the right ones according to winds, tide and swell. I'll never forget my time at Playgrounds and the wonderful people with whom I shared this experience!"
