“Kandui is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the greatest waves on the globe. It’s a challenging left-hander that offers multiple barrel sections. A wave where ambition meets reality.”

“On a small swell at high tide, even average surfers might lock in the barrel of their lives. But as the swell mounts, Kandui transforms into a wild beast, a day I shared with Kelly Slater that remains etched as the most monumental surf of my existence.”

“When Kandui roars, it’s all barrel, no room for turns. You must choose your spot wisely; nail the takeoff, and as you pivot at the bottom, the ocean rears like a titan before you, daring you to charge a high line as the world crashes over. That commitment, that instant where time stands still – it’s what makes Kandui an unparalleled thrill.”

9. Kandui

N

SWELL

West quadrant swells are Kandui’s bread and butter – the bigger, the better. It’s a rapid wave, and size gives you the space to navigate the cavernous depths of its barrels.

N

Wind

Offshore is king here. East winds create the optimal, glassy conditions Kandui craves. Avoid cross shore or light onshore winds; it’s simply not worth it.

N

Tide

Aim for high tide, where there’s just enough water cushioning the reef.

N

Location

Kandui sits majestically to the south of our resort on the resplendent Karangmajat Island, beckoning the brave.

N

Distance

A 20 minute boat ride is all that separates you from the majesty of Kandui, a journey that’s as thrilling as the destination itself, especially as the swell and tides conspire to speed you on your way.

Tips from Oscar Guiss Filho, Playground Surf Resort

"I spent 8 days here with an awesome crew of friends and the outstanding coaching support of Margaret River High Performance Centre. The resort is simply stunning; the welcome from Donny and his tribe of cooks, photographers and boat crew goes well beyond anything I've experienced before. Such a great, happy, welcoming group of people. And the waves... OMG, these are world class and there are options for all levels. At least 20 surf breaks on your doorstep and local knowledge ensures that you hit the right ones according to winds, tide and swell. I'll never forget my time at Playgrounds and the wonderful people with whom I shared this experience!"
